The U Series soundboards and ribs are crafted from solid spruce that has been hand selected at our Kitami Mill in Hokkaido, Japan giving these pianos a richer, more resonant voice and evenly balanced timbre across the entire keyboard.

Designed for the experienced pianist and professional musician, Yamaha U1 upright pianos are made in Japan and feature outstanding tone, touch and durability. The top ten percent of solid spruce from around the world is hand selected from our Kitami Mill in Hokkaido, Japan for the YUS piano soundboards. Each YUS piano features a proprietary Yamaha tone escapement system that helps provide the clarity of tone and power that is rarely found in an upright.
